WHY
Everything began in 1948. In connection with his technical abilities and the view towards the markets needs, the engineer Otto Schill put together a small, portable cable drum. With that he laid the cornerstone for the worldwide production of cable drums and for the innovative company that today still is characterised through that special pioneering spirit, the market orientation and the closeness to customers. Over the years, Schill has become established as a major name on the international global market.
The headquarters and administration of Schill GmbH & Co. KG are situated in Fellbach near Stuttgart. Since 1968, the production facilities have been in Laichingen on the Swabian Jura. Today, the company is managed by the third generation by Ingo Schill and has round about 70 employees who boast many years of experience and expertise.
HOW
In the production plant in Laichingen all cable drums and cable reels are assembled in precise manual work. The cable reels are produced on paper in the design department. The appropriate tools for drum production are then produced in the tool shop. The plastic injection moulding shop produces coil parts, handles, spare parts and other components for the plastic cable drums. In the stamping shop, among other things, the discs for the cable drums are made of sheet steel. Demanding welding work on the metal or aluminium is then carried out in the locksmith's shop. The discs from the stamping shop are first cleaned of grease and other deposited materials in the powder coating process and then powder-coated. The applied paint is then baked in the oven.
In the individual assembly lines the components are then assembled into cable drums and reels. The completely assembled hand cable drums or larger drum systems are then dispatched by the shipping department by air freight, forwarding, parcel service, collection or by sea.
WHAT
Schill GmbH & Co. KG is based in Baden-Württemberg and has been producing cable drums and reels in the family tradition since 1948. The forward-looking medium-sized enterprise produces both individual solutions and standard systems: stable plastic cable boxes for domestic use, robust cable drums made from special rubber or sheet steel for construction as well as motorised built-in cable drums for outside broadcast vans; Schill's product range meets every need – right up to pivoting spring-loaded or hose reels, as well as solutions for charging electric vehicles.
Schill provides innovative systems for customers and partners from the fields of audio/video, broadcast, trade and industry. Improvement, development and regular inspections of the cable drums and reels keep quality at a consistently high level while always ensuring compliance with current international standards such as DIN EN ISO 9001:2015.
Furthermore, many Schill cable drums meet the requirements of the German Social Accident Insurance DGUV; DGUV Info 203-006 (BGI 608) and DGUV Info 203-005 (BGI 600 Category K2).
